Have you received my references?

Undergraduate applicants

If you are applying for an undergraduate degree using the UCAS application service, you will have provided your referee details to UCAS via UCAS Apply and UCAS will have obtained the references before passing your application to us.

Postgraduate and visiting applicants

If you are applying to the University via our online application form, you will have answered a question in the form on whether you would like us to contact your referees by email to obtain the reference.

If you answered 'Yes' to this, we will have sent an email to your referee asking them to upload a reference to your application.

If you answered 'No' to this, you will have been able to upload the references in the document upload section of the application form, or if you did not upload any reference at that time, you will be able to upload the references once you have submitted your application and obtained a EUCLID login account. You will be able to do this using the message that has been sent to your Intray in the 'Home' page.

Note: This message is also made available to applicants who have asked us to contact the referee directly. We provide this so that you have the option to upload the reference yourself if you have a copy.

How can I check if the reference has been provided?

Undergraduate applicants

If our admissions team need a further reference from you other than what was provided in your UCAS application, they will send a message to your EUCLID Intray located in the 'Home' page of EUCLID. You can upload the required document by replying to this Intray Message. You will be able to see the status of the document request by looking in your EUCLID 'My UG Applications' page. There is a section labelled 'My Clearance Checks'. The reference request will be displayed there. When you upload the reference AND our admissions team have reviewed the document to determine that it is in an acceptable format, the reference request will be removed from the 'My Clearance Checks' section.

Postgraduate applicants

In the EUCLID portal, go to the 'My PG Applications' page. The 'My Clearance Checks' section is divided into three further sections:

Outstanding Clearance Checks - you can see from this if you have selected the referee to upload the reference directly to your application or whether you need to upload the reference. If the request is in this section, no document has been uploaded to your application yet. Once a document has been uploaded the reference request will move to the second section.

Clearance checks received but not yet reviewed by the university - this means that the document has been received but our admissions teams have not yet reviewed it to make sure it is in an acceptable format. Once our admissions teams do approve the document the reference request will move to the third section.

Completed Clearance Checks - this means that no further action is required.

Visiting applicants

In the EUCLID portal, go to the 'My VS Applications' page. The 'My Clearance Checks' section will display the reference request if you have an outstanding reference request AND our admissions team have not yet reviewed the document. Once the admissions team have reviewed the document, the request will be removed from the 'My Clearance Checks' section.

All applicant types

If you have sent a reference by email to the admissions team, it may take some time for the document to be uploaded to your application and for the document to be reviewed. If you have sent the reference by email and you want to know if it has been received, you should contact the admissions team for the programme applied to. Contact details can be found at:
