DPT Report Structure

The View Current DPT report displays the DPT for each year of the selected programme. The example below shows the DPTs for years one to four of the 2009/10 Arabic and French (MA).

The DPTs displayed below have been amended for this user guide to display the various methods of presenting course options in EUCLID.

Year 1

The report displays the programme name and code along with the programme academic year (Year 1, academic year 2009/10).

Below this are year specific notes for this DPT, these can be amended by the school owning the programme.

The first box shows the Compulsory Courses for this DPT, in this case Arabic 1a, Arabic 1b and Islamic History 1. Each Course Code is a hyperlink to additional course detail.

The Period refers to the point in the academic year when the course can be taken i.e. semester 1, semester 2, full year or any period.

The SCQF credit level is also displayed.

Displayed below the Compulsory Courses are the Course Options. In EUCLID, these course options are rule based to ensure students are only able to select suitable course combinations when given access to the Online Course Self Selection tool.

The simplest example of a course option is displayed below. In this case students must select exactly 40 credits from the course collection ROU_G_UGILACU10_8.

The two courses included in this collection are displayed again the code is a hyperlink to additional course details.

As both courses have a credit weighting of 40, only one can be selected.

The combination of compulsory and optional courses in this DPT will result in 120 credits being selected. This is the required number of SCQF credits required for a full year, undergraduate programme of study.

Year 2

The compulsory courses for year 2 of the programme are displayed showing the course code, name, period and credit weighting.

EUCLID Screenshot

The course options for year 2 offer the opportunity for students to select courses from two different course collections.

In this example 20 credits should be selected from course collection ROU_UGLILACU1_8 AND an additional 20 credits from course collection SUB_ELCF_8.

The AND operand shows the relationship between the two individual collections.

Year 3

It is possible to add notes to each year of the DPT. In this case a requirement for entry to Honours has been detailed in the notes section.

Below the notes we have the compulsory courses for year 3 showing the course code, name, period and credit weighting of each course.

EUCLID Screenshot

The course options for year 3 require students to make course selections from one of two course collections.

In this example 20 credits should be selected from course collection SUB_IMES_10 OR 20 credits from course collection SUB_ELCF_10.

The OR operand shows the relationship between the two individual collections.

In the addition to the OR operand the two collections have been grouped together in a box (shaded pink) to visually reflect the relationship between the collections.

In system terms an opening and closing bracket have been added around the two collections to create the relationship. Using brackets to group course options together is covered in Section: Amending DPTs

Year 4

Notes relating to final assessment weighting have been added and are displayed at the top of the DPT.

Below the notes are the compulsory courses for year 4 showing the course code, name, period and credit weighting of each course.

The course options for year 4 offer the opportunity for students to make course selections from two course collections.

In this case however, the number of credits that can be selected from each collection is flexible i.e. Select a minimum of 10 and a maximum of 30 credits from each collection.

To manage the total number of credits selected, an overarching rule has been placed around the two collections restricting the combined total number of credits selected to exactly 40 credits.

The two collections have been grouped together in a box (shaded light blue) to visually reflect the relationship between the collections and the overarching rule applied to them.

In system terms the collections have been linked by adding them both to a group (Group A). It is now possible to apply an overarching rule to the collections within that group.

Creating overarching rule groups are covered in Section: Amending DPTs
