Dynamic List BoxDynamic list boxes allow users to search by both code and name and can be used in conjunction with the wildcard facility * There are several ways to retrieve course codes using the dynamic list box. The simplest of these is where the course code prefix and SCQF credit level of the target course are already known.
Enter the course prefix and SCQF level into the dynamic list box to display the matching records in a drop down list. Click on the course you want to select from the drop down list, this will automatically populate the Course Code field. The dynamic list box can also be used to search for a course by name. Begin entering the course name remembering that unlike codes, course name searches are case sensitive. In the example above courses beginning with the keyword History are displayed. A maximum of 200 records can be displayed at one time. To refine the search enter additional keywords in conjunction with wildcards*. Adding the keyword Scottish followed by a wildcard* has focused the search to course names that begin with the word Scottish and contain the word History at any point in the full name. The wildcard represents any additional text separating the keywords. We can open the search up by placing a wildcard in front of the keywords. The additional wildcard* represents any words that appear before our keywords in the course name. It is worth noting again that course name searches are case sensitive. The wildcard can be used to avoid dropping any courses from our results due to case sensitivity. In the above example we have entered *eltic in the dynamic list box. This will return all courses that contain the word Celtic where either an upper or lower case ‘C’ is used in the course name. |
