A Search Facility is displayed in the Select Course Instances table along with the total number of credits that must be selected to satisfy the Optional Course requirement.

Note that the Search Facility is only displayed when the number of courses available to select from is too large to list on screen.

There are two ways to use the Search Facility:

Quick Search
Use this option when you have the Course Code or part code of the Course Code.

Advanced Search
Use this option to retrieve courses by Course Name, Subject Area, School or Level.

Each row in the Search Facility can be used to retrieve a single course. The quickest way to retrieve a single course is by entering a known Course Code into the Course Code field and clicking the Quick Search button.

However, you are also able to retrieve courses by Subject Area and SCQF Level using the Quick Search facility. This is possible due to the structure of Course Codes in EUCLID.

EUCLID course codes are made up of the Home Subject prefix followed by the SCQF Level and an additional three digits to make the code unique.

Example EUCLID Course Codes:

  • PHYS09019 - Physics/SCQF level 9/019 - Statistical Mechanics
  • ACCN10009 - Accounting/SCQF level 10/009 – Audit Theory
  • CHEM10016 - Chemistry/SCQF level 10/016 - Geochemistry

By entering a Home Subject prefix and an SCQF Level followed by a wildcard* into the Course Code field we can retrieve all courses in the Subject Area at the specified level using the Quick Search button.

Quick Search using a Wildcard*:

  • PHYS09* - Courses with a Home Subject of ‘Physics’ at SCQF level 9
  • ACCN10* - Courses with a Home Subject of ‘Accounting’ at SCQF Level 10
  • CHEM10* - Courses with a Home Subject of ‘Chemistry’ at SCQF Level 10

In the example below MUSI08* has been entered into the Course Code field to retrieve all courses with a Home Subject of ‘Music’ at SCQF Level 8.

Click the Quick Search button to retrieve the matching courses.
