Introduction to Online Course Enrolment in EUCLID

From July 2010 the EUCLID Online Course Enrolment (OCE) software will be used to manage all student course enrolments replacing the functionality currently delivered via WISARD.

The new OCE software introduces two new levels of automatic system validation based upon the published Degree Programme Tables (DPTs) and individual Course Entry Requirements.

Degree Programme Tables (DPTs)
DPTs are published online as part of the DRPS and identify the normal regulated path for each year of a Degree Programme including the curriculum a student will follow i.e. Compulsory Courses, Optional Courses and the set of rules managing course selection.

DPT Editors across the Schools have used EUCLID functionality to embed system rules into the DPTs that will be used to automatically enrol students on to their Compulsory Courses and validate any Optional Course selections made during the Online Course Enrolment (OCE) process.

Course Entry Requirements
Course details are published online as part of the DRPS including a Course Outline, Delivery Information, Summary of Intended Learning Outcomes, Assessment Information and Contact Details.

Details of any Entry Requirements for the course are also published. These include any Pre-requisites, Co-requisites, Prohibited Combinations or any Other Requirement that needs to be met for the course to be taken.

Course administrators across the Schools have used EUCLID functionality to embed system rules into their Courses. These rules will be used to automatically check that a student has met the conditions of any Entry Requirements (excluding 'Other Requirements' recorded as free text) before allowing them to enrol onto the course.

Edit Course Enrolment (not validated by DPT rules)
Ideally all students would be initially enrolled onto their courses using the DPT and Entry Requirement validation, however there will be a need to be able to override the validation when required.

The Edit Course Enrolment (not validated by DPT rules) functionality will enable Academic and Administrative staff to edit a student's course enrolments whilst bypassing the DPT rules and Entry Requirements.
