DLHE Return

Destination of Leavers from Higher Education (DLHE) return

Introduction

HESA require all higher education institutions to return current employment & study details for their recent alumni. This is called the Destination of Leavers from Higher Education (DLHE) return

Careers Service are responsible for contacting & surveying of the University of Edinburgh alumni.

Recent alumni, or HE leavers, are surveyed in two periods for DLHE 2011/2: April & January.

The April survey covers students who graduated from 1st August to 31st December 2011.

The January survey covers student who graduated from the 1st January to the 31st July 2012.

The survey data is then collated by Careers Service for final return to HESA in March 31st 2013.

DLHE & EUCLID

HESA are implementing major changes to the 2011/12 return, both in terms of the population of students surveyed (scale increase) and the data sought from them.

These new requirements will be delivered through EUCLID, taking advantage of the software and ongoing support / maintenance contractually provided by the external software suppliers (Tribal), and providing better integration for future scenario-planning (e.g. for KIS, integrating core EUCLID KIS data with DLHE returns).

The intention is that Careers use the HESA-hosted DLHE questionnaire, with data entered into it (by students and staff) and then exported from it (for loading into EUCLID using the existing software in addition to the normal written and telephone contacts.

As the software supplied in EUCLID is already in existence and the relative simplicity of the setup of the software for use for much of the DLHE initial processes, it has been concluded that the new software shall be delivered in two phases to allow Careers Service to make use of the new functionality as soon as possible. A description of the delivery of these two phases can be seen below.

Phase 1 delivery

EUCLID Phase 1 software will be delivered in early June and will allow Careers Service staff to utilise the following:

  • EUCLID Client access
  • Generating student employment destination records
  • Downloading DLHE questionnaire response data from HESA
  • Recording DLHE questionnaire responses in EUCLID

Phase 2 delivery

EUCLID Phase 2 software will be delivered in late June and will allow Careers Service staff to the following:

  • EUCLID Web access
  • Recording DLHE coding data
  • Extracting DLHE return data
  • Validating DLHE return data
  • DLHE Reporting within Business Object XI
