Clearing
From 2009, UCAS has replaced the paper Clearing passport
with an electronic clearing process.
When an applicant becomes eligible for Clearing an ‘Add
Clearing choice’ button will appear on the applicants UCAS
Track ‘choices’ screen. They can use this to apply for a
clearing programme.
The applicant takes the lead in contacting HEIs to
discuss vacancies.
Full details of the UCAS Clearing process, including UCAS
training video guides, are available via:

This site is password restricted. You will need to login
to the UCAS website.
The Clearing process as descibed by UCAS is:
Clearing
-
Applicants
will be eligible for Clearing if they have no offers,
or they applied after 30 June.
-
Applicants
don’t need to contact us to request entry into
Clearing.
-
If an
applicant is eligible, a Clearing Number and 'Add
Clearing choice' button will be displayed in Track –
they can use this to apply for a course.
-
Single choice
applicants who have only paid the £12 application fee
will need to pay the full fee to enter Clearing.
-
Vacancies will
be listed on ucas.com, in The Telegraph and on
provider websites.
-
Applicants
contact providers to discuss course vacancies.
-
If an
applicant is offered a place they want to accept,
they enter the provider and UCAS course details in
Track. (Only courses that have been set up in Course
Collect as having clearing vacancies can be entered in
Track.)
-
Applicants
who do not have access to Track can phone UCAS on 0371
468 0468.
-
Applications
are sent to the applicants Clearing choice institution
and a decision is made – accept or unsuccessful.
-
If an
unsuccessful decision is received the applicant can
add another choice.
Clearing applications are
allocated a choice number of '0'. The University of
Edinburgh process their clearing decisions directly on to
the UCAS Weblink system and not
via EUCLID. For Weblink login details contact SRA (ext
504360).
